A ship in harbour is safe, but that is not what ships are built for. — John A. Shedd
Can you feel the sense of purpose and adventure wrapped up in this quotation?
To be fit for purpose, a ship’s structure is necessarily complex and the vision of its captain adaptable and clear to sail the seven seas. Yet without a detailed plan and a compass, the ship will not sail far from the safety of its harbour.
Initially, people will look and remark on what a nice ship it is, but longer-term people will ask why it’s not moving far. Now, while we shouldn’t take too much notice of people’s opinions, once we have a vision for our lives, we must execute it. We need to move.
This reminds me of another quote by Henry Ford, “If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.” Henry Ford had a vision for transport that would break the mould of convention and put cars into the hands of the many. What he did was make the vision accessible.
For us to take strides in our personal lives we have to dream bigger than our present reality. Once we’ve taken the time and dared to dream, the next part of the journey is to plan it and execute it.
Planning is mapping out the end goal and the steps needed to move towards that goal. Everyone has ideas but in order to execute those ideas commitment and accountability are required.
Financial planning with vision in mind clarifies motives. We need to take practical steps towards our goal by looking at our income and expenditure and how they work together.
Do adjustments or modifications need to be made for you to reach your desired destination? Will you have too much – can you ease off a little now? Too little – do we need to make some adjustments? Or is it about right?
Planning this way helps us discover how you might be able to set sail towards your dream earlier than you thought or have a clear indication of when you can embark.
That’s what we do, we help people plan their financial future. Like the great pioneers of the past, we help you chart your course and give you the tools to discover land!
So, whether you choose to go by Land, Sea or Air, we’ll help you travel towards your vision in confidence, knowing that the journey is something you really want.
Would it be okay to help you plan so you can leave your harbour with confidence and adventure?
Sail well.
